Seminar on the contribution of the digital economy to the achievement of sustainable development goals was inaugurated

On January 6, 2020, the Seminar on the contribution of the digital economy to the achievement of sustainable development goals was inaugurated. This training project is part of the bilateral collaboration agreement between the sister nations of Cuba and China. The course will take place from January 6 to the 12 at the Cuban National Hotel and will be taught by professors from the Shandong School of Foreign Trade of the People's Republic of China. The welcome speech was given by the General Director of Informatics of the Ministry of Communications, Miguel Gutiérrez Rodríguez, who thanked the delegation of professors from the Shandong School of Foreign Trade who have kindly shared with Cuban professionals their experiences regarding how China has focused its strategy to achieve its sustainable development objectives, with a particular focus on Information and Communication Technologies as a catalyst for development in the current context. On her part, Ms. Quin Cuiyin, Director of the Shandong School of Foreign Trade expressed her gratitude to Cuba for allowing the organization and holding of the Seminar and for the warm welcome. Among the goals to be achieved in the Seminar are to deepen in the impact of ICTs in the GDP, as well as in the implementation of indicators that allow greater clarity regarding the welfare of citizens; to know the experiences in the handling and protection of large volumes of data; to obtain greater clarity in the progress of e-government and e-commerce; the linkage of ICTs with food production systems, water management, and health services.    The Seminar on the contribution of the digital economy to the achievement of sustainable development goals includes representatives of agencies, OACE (institutions of the central administration of the State) and political and mass organizations.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Director-General of Information Technology of the Ministry of Communications, Miguel Gutiérrez Rodríguez; Ms. Hong Xiao, Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy accredited in Cuba; Ms. Quin Cuiyin, Director of Shandong University of Foreign Trade.
