The Minister of Communications holds a meeting through video conference with the President of Correos de Cuba

On May 7, at noon, the Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, held a new video-conference meeting with the President of the Correos de Cuba Business Group, Carlos Asencio Valerino, to check the proceedings of postal services for the population and the impact of COVID-19 on postal organization; this meeting was also attended by Marisol Fuentes Ferrer, secretary-general of the National Workers Union from the Electronics, Informatics and Communication sectors; and other officials from MINCOM and OSDE.

The President of Correos de Cuba informed that up to May 5, that Business Group had 4 of its workers registered in hospitals as COVID-19 contagion suspects, while other 13 were being monitored at their homes by the Primary Attention Health System. Likewise, he provided further details about the local propagation event that took place at the printing house from Villa Clara and was originated by a worker from that entity. There were 54 workers from the Postal Company of the central region of the country involved in this event, they were tested for coronavirus and their results were all negative, although 7 of them were taken to an isolation facility because of their closeness to the propagation source.

Asencio Valerino also told the Minister of Communications that the companies and service units keep working and are strictly following the prevention and control measures against COVID-19; he added that they are prioritizing home delivery services, more specifically, those regarding national money orders, social security, social assistance, the written press and others.

Lastly, he explained that progress is being made in the shipping and delivery of the products bought online from the Cimex and Caribe store chains in Havana, as part of that operation, according to him, from April 13 to May 5, Correos de Cuba has delivered more than 5 400 orders to the customers from the stores Carlos III, 5ta y 42, Cuatro Caminos, El Pedregal and Villa Diana; he added that the conditions are being arranged to expand this e-commerce service to the rest of the provinces.
