During his visit to the Portal, Jorge Luis Perdomo highlighted the prestige and potential of our site, on the eve of its 18th anniversary.
Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, the Cuban Minister of Communications, recognized the work of CubaSí as a truth-bearer alternative against those who try to undermine the Cuban reality.
On the eve of the 18th anniversary of CubaSí and coinciding with ETECSA's 25th-anniversary celebrations, the Minister in conversation with the workers highlighted that the site "is one of the first digital media in the country and one of the most prestigious among our population. Known for years, it is a very dynamic medium on the Internet that is characterized by its speed and freshness, to reach young people.
"I believe - added Perdomo- that what they are doing has great potential and that one of the greatest challenges we face is that this development that is being experienced in information and communications technology in the country - which is not yet what our population wants in terms of access and which is going to expand - is accompanied by a knowledge background regarding the use of these technologies, by the population's knowledgeability in terms of using them for the economic, social and political development of the country. And CubaSí.cu can have a very important role when transmitting that knowledge.
When deepening into the role that he confers to this website, he added:
"I think that CubaSí is, indeed, an alternative medium. Those who call themselves alternative media are the empire's classic ones that only answer to their bosses and try to impose the neo-liberal platform here.
"CubaSí is truly alternative because on its web pages people can find the alternative truth that the big media are trying to discredit. They can also have access to real news and opinions that counter-act fakeness.CubaSí.cu is a communication medium in Cuba, and therefore responds to the interests of the Cuban people," the minister concluded.
During the exchange, he insisted on going deeper and deeper into the culture for the responsible, selective use of networks and new technologies, which privileges knowledge over banality. And regarding that goal, he considered CubaSí as "an extraordinary tool".
