The Minister of Communications visits the province of Camagüey

Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Minister of Communications, evaluated today in this city the process of expansion of capacities for fixed and mobile telephony, as part of the actions for the improvement of technology that in turn seeks the creation of more services and the development of electronic commerce.

During a tour around some of the facilities in this city, the third most populated in Cuba, he appreciated the improvements in those services and the expansion of Internet connectivity with facilities such as those of nauta Hogar, and he remarked the importance of those advances and those of other technologies.

When visiting some of the benefited neighborhoods outside the center of town, he commented to district delegates, presidents of the People's Councils, and ETECSA directors that this also constitutes opportunities for state companies and the non-state sector to develop new services and impact the quality of life of the population.

He valued the prospects of the sector in Camagüey to continue expanding services based on the improvement of new technologies, which favors the development and promotion of its economic tasks in the territory, something that is essential in the new socioeconomic strategy.

Perdomo Di-Lella highlighted the efforts of the groups to advance in the programs that favor connectivity -which includes the nauta hogar service- and called for prioritizing the improvement in the evacuation of data traffic and reaching the places where the connection is poor, or does not exist, especially in the areas on the outskirts of the city.

The Minister recognized the results of the personnel of the sector during the most complex stage of COVID-19, in which besides continuing to guarantee the services and execute the investments, they assumed tasks in the fight against the pandemic, -that is still here, he clarified- providing accesses in isolation centers and hospital areas.

He also highlighted the assembly of four digital television transmitters by Radiocuba, three standard type, and a high definition one, for a total of 11 in the province.

With the increase of digital television and the liberation of the analogical one, the creation of technical possibilities for the extension of the 4G in the country is favored.

After two days of analysis of the progress of the development and computerization programs of society, accompanied by Mayra Arevich, Executive President of ETECSA, and Carmen Hernández Requejo, Vice-Governor of Camagüey, he requested that managers and workers continue with their potential, and despite the limitations, support the new socioeconomic tasks of the country.

He considered it as fundamental to receive the concerns of the population about ETECSA's services and to offer more information about its actions and what is being done to improve the computerization of society.

The city of Camagüey has 71 radio bases, of which 33 are for 4G connection, and there are plans to install 16 more. Work is being done on nine of them and four are ready to start working soon, Amado González Pérez, Head of ETECSA's Telecommunications Center in the municipality of Camagüey, told the press.

These nodes also serve 2G and 3G connections, which is a facility for all cell phones even if they can't use 4G connection.

In the current year, even with the pandemic situation, 30 new cell phone radio bases were installed in the municipalities of the province of Camagüey and another 40 are planned to be installed.
