The phrase that identifies the humanist character of the Cuban Apostle reads: I believe humans can always be better.

Martí's ethics were the ethics of the Cuban Revolution, where moral encouragements are present in the behavior, in altruism; in not placing one's own benefit before that of the people and the restless struggle for the victory of virtue and justice.

I am preparing myself to carry the book through the paths of new life to modestly serve people; to help as a human soldier, in every spirited and honest undertaking, and as the love of the hand of liberty, poor and fierce, expressed the Maestro.

José Martí knew the consequences that the fulfilling of his duty would bring about, just like the other martyrs and heroes that made the Cuban Revolution possible through their sacrifice, and those who lead our people nowadays in the face of all difficulties.

One of the most recent opinions about José Martí's ethics and humanism was simply but categorically said by the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz: For us, Martí is benevolence.
