As part of the preparatory process for the accountability of the Ministry of Communications (MINCOM), which will take place next December before the National Assembly of People's Power, in the morning of Wednesday, September 21, a commission of the highest legislative body of the Cuban State visited the OSDE Correos de Cuba and toured some of its companies in the capital.

The deputies, María del Carmen Concepción González and Martha Mesa Valenciano, chairwomen of the Services and Education, Culture and Science Commissions, respectively, as well as Teresa González Barea, vice-president of the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly, learned how OSDE Correos de Cuba is implementing the economic-social strategy to boost the economy and face the world crisis caused by COVID-19.

Pablo Julio Pla Feria, president of Correos de Cuba, offered the deputies detailed information on the actions carried out by this Business Group in order to comply with the strategic objectives outlined by the postal organization to contribute to the recovery of the national economy.

During a tour of the facilities of the International Courier and Exchange Company of Correos de Cuba, the members of Parliament were informed by Julio Quial Sotolongo, acting director of this entity, about the results and shortcomings of the operational processes, distribution and delivery of record numbers of international postal, parcel and express courier shipments, which during the years 2020 (1.6 million), 2021 (4.7 million) and so far in 2022 (up to the end of August more than 2 million shipments), have been processed and delivered throughout the country.

Quial Sotologo also informed them about the progress of the organizational and assurance processes for the automation of the International Exchange Office (OCI) and cross-border e-commerce, aimed at marketing, representation, storage, management and distribution of purchases to online businesses, through alliances with other entities, and to promote the import and export of products through the systems and processes of the postal organization, which will be offered inside and outside the country by foreign and domestic suppliers.

The members of the Cuban Parliament also visited the headquarters of the Empresa de Aseguramiento General de Correos de Cuba and, through its general director, Lázaro Manzano Zamora, they learned about the actions in which this entity is working to become a national logistics operator, an exporting and financial services company.
Later, María del Carmen Concepción González, Martha Mesa Valenciano and Teresa González Barea toured the OCI's international shipment processing plants, where they had a pleasant and fruitful exchange with its workers.
Finally, the deputies to the National Assembly of the People's Power also visited and greeted the officers and officials of the Postal and Shipping Customs who work in the facilities of the Courier Company.

Participating in the tour were Ana Julia Marine López, Deputy Minister of Communications; Erlin Rondón Cedeño, General Secretary of the Communications, Informatics and Electronics Workers Union; Fernando Verdecia Olazabal, head of the Postal and Shipping Customs; as well as other executives of OSDE Correos de Cuba, and of the Courier and International Exchange Companies, and of the General Insurance of the Cuban postal organization.
