Cuba's First Deputy Minister of Communications, Wilfredo González Vidal, is part of the Cuban delegation participating, this June 28, in the First ALBA Digital Meeting being held in Caracas, Venezuela.

In his speech, Wilfredo González Vidal conveyed warm greetings from the Cuban people and government to the Executive Secretariat of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) for the initiative to hold this important and necessary event and to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the host, as well as to all member countries.

The First Deputy Minister of Communications once again ratified the support, solidarity and firm commitment of loyalty to the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, especially to its President, comrade Nicolás Maduros Moros.

González Vidal, addressed in his speech aspects to be highlighted such as:

Cuba is in a scenario of increased digital aggression. The monopolies of information and social networks have allowed the violation of their own policies, rules and procedures, allowing messages that overflow with hatred and violence. These negative practices do not contribute to the sustainable development of our countries.

In addition to the above, there are today disinformation campaigns and misrepresentation of the truth about our country, together with the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S., which continues to be the main impediment to a better flow of information and wider access to ICTs by the Cuban people.

Sovereignty on the Internet also involves developing and positioning a greater amount of relevant national digital content and services, only in this way will we achieve greater interaction with our citizens, technological sovereignty and sustain our cultural identity as a strategic imperative for the survival of our nations.

Cuba reiterates the call for global unity, solidarity and international cooperation, to put aside political differences and eliminate unilateral coercive measures imposed by some countries, which violate international law and the United Nations Charter, while limiting the ability of States to address the current international economic crisis and situations such as the COVID 19 pandemic.

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, when sending greetings to the participants today, from his personal Twitter account on this first Meeting expressed: "Greetings from #Cuba to the participants in the First Meeting of ALBA DIGITAL, a fertile space to exchange experiences and strengthen alliances between our countries in the face of the fierce communicational war that is being waged against us."

Wilfredo González Vidal, First Deputy Minister of Communications, in his personal profile on Twitter wrote: We participated in the #AlbaDigital event with friends from Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua and other Caribbean countries, all ratify the importance of unity in the digital space to prevent and confront any attempt of subversion against our countries #AlbaUnida #Cuba.

For her part, the Minister of Communications, Mayra Arevich Marín, in her official Twitter account on the ALBA DIGITAL Meeting said: The current times require that we promote a plural and democratic governance of the Internet and advance in a communication agenda of the peoples, promoting the construction of a Citizen Internet and a Latin American and Caribbean Cyberspace of Peace.
