Under the main slogan "Video Standards create a global scenario" Cuba celebrated the main event for World Standards Day, on October 14, at the José Martí Memorial in Havana, as part of the activities for the Month of Quality.

During the event, the results of the Technical Committees for Standardization (CTN) were acknowledged for their performance in such an important task of developing the Cuban Standards required for the economic and social development of the nation. The Information Technology CTN (Technical Standardization Committee) 18, directed by the Office of Technological Development and Investments of the Ministry of Communications, obtained the annual prize.

According to the National Office of Standardization in this occasion, it is relevant to take into consideration that the innovation of the last decades has driven a great leap in the quality of videos, which has become more accessible, helping people around the world to share their stories in vivid and moving images.

The institution points out that these gains in both sophistication and accessibility of videos are based on globally recognized standards.

It also highlights that nowadays, when our society promotes the development of information technologies and their multiple applications, such as electronics, automation, and other advances, it is necessary to bear in mind the role of standards, providing innovators with the necessary confidence in the success of their tasks.

World Standards Day, recognized worldwide since 1970, is universally coordinated by the three leading international standards organizations of which Cuba is a member: the International Organization for Standardization (ISO); the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC); and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
