On this April 23 Cuba celebrates for the fourth time the International Girls in ICT Day under the slogan "Widen horizons, change attitudes", once more this day is aimed at hundreds of girls, young women, and women in general to promote the following goal: Considering the possibility of studying majors related to the ICT field as a way of achieving higher levels of female participation in the companies of the ICT sector.

Due to the world health emergency caused by COVID 19, the International Telecommunication Union(IT U) proposed that this day should be celebrated virtually.

Cuba joins this celebration by fostering the development of information and communication technologies in all sectors of society, the active participation of women and girls in all the programs of the computerization process of Cuban society are proof of that.

Following the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, among which can be found: Achieving equality between genders and empowering all women and girls, this specific SDG includes among its objectives the improvement of the use of instrumental technology, particularly information and communication technology, to promote the empowerment of women.

As an initiative, Cuban women and young women, who are ICT professionals, shared their university and work experiences, and also the challenges that they've had to overcome as officials or specialists in the technological sector to serve the purpose of encouraging new generations to choose majors related to the ICT.

Our country fosters equal access to ICT for everyone, from professional training to positions as officials in companies linked to the ICT sector.

The International Girls in ICT Day is an initiative that was endorsed by the Member States of the ITU in Resolution 70 (Rev. Bussan, 2014) of the Plenipotentiaries’ Conference with the purpose of creating an environment in the world to empower and encourage girls and young women to consider the possibility of choosing a major in the field of information and communications technology, which is still growing.
