Description:
Honoring the 499th anniversary of the establishment of La Villa de San Cristobal de La Habana, last Friday, in the morning of the 16th of November, a commemorative postal cancellation took place at the Palacio del Segundo Cabo in tribute to the most important historical day of the Cuban capital.   Amongst the participants of this cancellation were His Excellency Mr. Alberto Navarro, European Union ambassador in Cuba; Katja Afhedt, Foreign Service minister of the European Union for the relations with the Caribbean, Central America and Cuba; Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of the city of Havana; and representatives of the accredited diplomatic body in our country, members of the Council of Direction of the City's Historian Office and workers of the Directorate of Cultural Patrimony. On behalf of Correos de Cuba (Cuban Mail Services), two persons attended this ceremony, Mario Suarez Naranjo and Luigi Dinza Hidalgo, director and senior specialist of the Commercial Directorate of this Business Group, respectively.   In this context, the City's Historian thanked the Ministry of Communications and Correos de Cuba for their contribution and unconditional support to the commemoration of the Capital's 499 Anniversary; he also highlighted the relevance of celebrating this postal cancellation at the Palacio del Segundo Cabo, since this place was conceived by the Spanish Crown as the seat of the General Post Office Administration on the Island of Cuba, which made Havana the postal communication center between Europe, and the Ibero-American colonies from that time.
