Two Cuban projects have been selected as champions for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Awards.

After the public online voting, the five projects with the highest amount of votes in each category were identified: Joven Club Móvil Ecológico, from Joven Club de Computación y Electrónica, in Category 2 on Information and Communication Infrastructure, and Cartelera Cultural de la Cultura Cubana-La Papeleta, in Category 15: Cultural Diversity and Identity, Linguistic Diversity and Local Content. Both projects were among the 90 Champion Projects out of 358 nominated for the WSIS Awards list.

The WSIS Awards is the mechanism created by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to give international recognition to initiatives submitted by the private sector, civil society and academic institutions. This platform showcases success stories and models that could be replicated for their contribution to development through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

During the WSIS Forum, the 18 winning projects will be officially announced to the public, as a result of the in-depth analysis carried out by the expert group on the five projects with the most votes in each category.
