In spite of social distancing measures sparked by the global pandemic, the Territorial Division in Sancti Spiritus strengthens radio and television services.

In order for social distancing to be full of entertainment and up-to-date information, the Territorial Division of Radiocuba in Sancti Spiritus ensures the broadcast of radio and television signals during the current medical eventuality caused by the COVID-19.

Jorge Félix Madrigal Pérez, director of the aforementioned institution, told Escambray that: “We continue working, but we are implementing health protection measures; we have installed four new transmitters as it had been planned for this time of the year, and in our offices, only the essential personnel is still working and their transportation is guaranteed”.

Regarding the newly connected equipment, the specialist specified that they were placed in the Loma de la Vigia (Trinidad), Las Llanadas (Yaguajay), and two in Fomento, from the last two, one featured standard technology and the others broadcast in high definition (HD).

Unlike other provinces in the country, this modern signal almost entirely covers the territory of Sancti Spiritus.

He also highlighted that since the discontinuation of the school year and the subsequent TV programming aimed at the students, the signal of the Canal Educativo was moved to the Multivisión channel analog frequency, specifically in the municipalities of La Sierpe (53), Cabaiguán (28), Jatibonico (67), Taguasco (42) and Sancti Spiritus (65), that alternative was implemented in agreement with the Provincial Defense Council.

According Madrigal Pérez, due to the fact that the transition process from analog TV to digital TV started in those territories, many families did not have decoder boxes or hybrid TV sets and they were missing the teleclasses on the Canal Educativo, that's why that measure had to be temporarily implemented.

The director explained that in the other municipalities of Trinidad, Yaguajay and Fomento, Radiocuba maintains the usual programming of the Canal Educativo through an analog transmitter. Hundreds of citizens from Sancti Spiritus are currently working from their homes; however, the technicians of the Territorial Division continue their work at the top of high TV towers because a service that is offered to hundreds of organizations depends on them, and their works consists in assuring and supporting communications systems.
