Beijing, October 23. Cuba's Minister of Communications, Mayra Arevich Marín, launched the call for the 19th Edition of the International Convention and Fair Informática 2024, focused on the Cuban digital society.

According to the minister, the main objective of this edition is to promote the implementation of the policies approved in the country for the development and use of information and communication technologies.

It will also address breakthroughs in digital transformation, the impact on the 2030 Economic and Social Development Plan and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, she explained.

In her opinion, the scientific convention will be a favorable space for discussions among professionals, technicians, businessmen, exhibitors, government representatives and representatives of international organizations.

She announced that the event will include nine events on topics such as knowledge management and innovation in organizations, government and e-commerce, artificial intelligence, data and image processing, information systems and spatial data infrastructure.

Other topics are linked to the development of the IT applications and services industry, science and technology parks, human capital, electronics, automation, robotics and cybersecurity.

The minister said that an exhibition fair will also be held from March 19 to 22 to showcase projects, technologies, resources, products and services, with a view to seeking strategic alliances between domestic and foreign entities.

In the last 10 years, the Cuban information technology and communications sector has undergone remarkable changes, despite the economic restrictions imposed by the USA blockade.
The number of internet users soared on the island, especially since December 2018, as a result of the political will to prioritize this field.

According to official data, almost eight million Cubans are mobile telephone users and more than 6.6 million of them access the Internet through their phones.
