Cuba and India celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations

The Cuban minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, presided over the ceremony of the postal cancellation of a commemorative stamp on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and India.

During the event, the vice minister, Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, highlighted the historic bonds of friendship and solidarity that exist between both peoples and governments.

According to Cubaminrex, she also communicated the willingness of Cuba to work on the exploit of the existant potentialities in the collaborative and commercial areas.

As part of her speech, Rodriguez Camejo recalled the visit of the Commander Ernesto Che Guevara to that Asian nation in 1959 and the meeting, a year later, between the Commander-In-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, and the Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, at the "Theresa" Hotel in New York, and also the first visit of Fidel to India in 1973.

We deeply thank India for its important contribution to our economic and social growth through their collaboration in key fields of our economy and through the training of hundreds of Cuban professionals in their academic cooperation programs, she said.

The Indian ambassador, Madhu Sethi, restated the will of her country's authorities to continue strengthening the relations between Cuba and India to benefit both countries, and she recalled the close cooperation ties developed by both countries concerning renewable energy, biotechnology and health, among others.

This ceremony was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Communications and the Correos de Cuba Business Group, and by other representatives from several Cuban institutions and organizations, by members of the diplomatic service and officials from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Cuba and India established diplomatic relations on January 12, 1960, based on respect, collaboration and friendship between both peoples and governments.
