Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán, was born on February 6, 1932, in Lawton, Havana City, Cuba.

It is the symbol of the memory of an eternal hero of the Fatherland, who through several generations has remained alive in memory, fed with thousands of anecdotes of his human and guerrilla work, as one of the fundamental pillars of the armed deed that overthrew to the pro imperialist tyranny of the dictator Fulgencio Batista the 1st. January 1959.

In 1955 he joined the project headed by Cuban leader Fidel Castro, aimed at organizing the Granma Yacht expedition. The courage and audacity of Camilo were key factors in his guerrilla development to fulfill decisive missions in the development of the insurrectionary struggle that was being waged in the Sierra Maestra.

He was promoted to Comandante, the highest grade of the guerrillas and together with Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, undertook the successful invasion to the west of the island, commanding Column 2 "Antonio Maceo".

Days in which all the people suffered, as it became evident, with the passing of each day, the painful certainty of their final disappearance.

On October 28, 2009, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the physical disappearance of the hero, the monumental sculpture of the Lord of the Vanguard made by the plastic artist Enrique was inaugurated on the facade of the Ministry of Communications of Havana, Cuba Ávila (Holguin, Cuba, December 15, 1952).
