The victory of Playa Giron, on April 19, 1961, demonstrated the unity of the people in defense of sovereignty and independence. It meant the first great military defeat of Yankee imperialism in Latin America and consolidated the Cuban Revolution. It was the sum of thousands of heroic deeds of common people and soldiers, militiamen, workers, peasants, protagonists of that great epic.

The Minister of Communications, Mayra Arevich Marín in her official Twitter account wrote: "After the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, no event marked the destiny and the future of our people as much as the battle of Playa Girón. "#FidelPorSiempre As in #GironDeVictorias that glorious April 1961, we will continue fighting, resisting and winning! #MejorEsPosible
