On June 19, officials from the Ministry of Communications (Mincom) and the Cuban Postal Business Group held a meeting with the national and foreign press accredited in our country.

In the press conference, held at the Escuela de Correos de Cuba (Cuban Postal Services School) in the western part of the capital, participated Pablo Julio Pla Feria, General Director of Communications of the Communications Ministry; Eldis Vargas Camejo, vice-president of Correos de Cuba; Reinaldo Rodríguez Lavado and José Manuel Valido Rodríguez, respective directors of International Relations and Institutional Communication of this Business Group.

During this meeting with the press, it was announced that from June 24th to 28th, Havana will host the three most important international events of the Caribbean's postal sector, more specifically at the Iberostar Parque Central Hotel. Delegates and guests from 31 countries will be participating in these events.

The vice-president of Correos de Cuba, Eldis Vargas Camejo, told the press that on June 24th and 25th, will take place the Regional Strategy Forum for the Caribbean from the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Later on, he explained that on June 26th and 27th, the 22nd Annual Conference of the Caribbean Postal Union (CPU) will come about, as well as the Forum on Regional Postal Operators' Business Growth. Meanwhile, on Friday (June 28th), the event will be brought to a close through the 17th Meeting of the Council Of Ministers that deal with postal matters in Caribbean countries.

The official from Correos de Cuba informed that the main objectives of the Regional Strategy Forum for the Caribbean from the Universal Postal Union are linked to the creation of a future Postal Strategy for the 2021-2024 period, which should be presented by the UPU during the coming 17th Congress of this international postal organization, to be held in 2020 in Côte d'Ivoire.

This first event will also present an update on global and regional trends affecting the postal sector; the best experiences in postal infrastructure development will be shared; new initiatives in the Caribbean region will be looked at, as well as key partnerships and other opportunities for collaborating with the UPU.

Good practices for improving the quality of postal services and the prospects for the development of the region in this sector will also be discussed, at which time Correos de Cuba will present its experiences. In addition to that, the existing regulations and the development of e-commerce among postal operators in Caribbean nations will be evaluated.
